Contemporary, holograph copies of Civil War letters, May 10-July 16, 1861 and September 8, 1862-November 5, 1863, sent to his father and sisters (Anna and Mary), all evidently of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The letters were written from Washington, D.C., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and many locales in Maryland and Virginia. Battles described include Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg.
